California Jumbo Asparagus

posted on April 18th, 2014 by John Savidan

jumbo-asparagusThis year’s Asparagus crop has begun up and down California’s central valley.  California asparagus has been a spring tradition for generations and we are proud to offer premium steakhouse sized asparagus. California’s rich soil provides the asparagus crown with an abundance of nutrients allowing it to shoot up jumbo sized spears which are perfect for your BBQ and holiday dinners. Our jumbo spears are about as big around as a thumb and only five or six make an entire pound. When our jumbo asparagus are prepared to the point of perfect tenderness, they have a texture somewhere between meat and butter. The asparagus almost melt when you chew them, and only have a touch of fibrous crunch remaining.

Ten to twelve minutes is all it really takes to cook Jumbo asparagus, no matter if you are grilling, boiling, or steaming them. The best way to tell exactly when they’re done is to poke a spear with a small knife; it should slide in easy, once that happens, lift a spear and it should be just soft enough to sag slightly.

Our select groups of asparagus farmers have over 40 years of experience growing jumbo California asparagus. The commitments to growing the right way with sustainable practices, along with being locally grown are in all in line with our core values.  Each and every year, we look forward to spring time which brings us some of the best tasting  jumbo asparagus around. We hope you enjoy this premium California grown treat just as much as we do.
