2015 Bancroft Cellars Chardonnay, Mendocino County
posted on July 13th, 2017 by Sara Trujillo
A quick swirl of this Chardonnay in your glass opens up the aromas and flavors of baked apples, pie dough, cedar, and toasted yeast with a dry yet fruity mouth-feel. Due to its lineage of hailing from Mendocino, this cool climate white offers a crisp, mineral laden finish that is balanced between its tannins and just a nuance of oak. A wonderful Chard to match with roasted chicken, boiled lobster or your favorite seafood or shellfish dish. And of course, a delightful aperitif while you’re doing the cooking!
The name “Mendocino” comes from the family name of Mendoza in honor of the 16th century Spanish explorer Lorenzo Suárez de Mendoza, who explored the Mendocino coast line as the first viceroy of New Spain. The first vineyards in Mendocino were established in the 1850s in the Redwood Valley by returning farmers who failed to find their wealth and prosperity during the California Gold Rush. Now we get to enjoy their “liquid gold”.
