Cool Down with Summer Peach Recipes

posted on July 15th, 2016 by John Savidan

Let's face it, the warmest days of summer are here and we can all use some fresh ideas for keeping cool, especially when it comes to our favorite summer eats and drinks. While eating our favorite summer fruits straight from the hand is an easy no-heat snack, there are many other ways to enjoy your summer fruit while cooling down a couple degrees at the same time. Here are our go-to recipes for cooling down this summer with sweet peaches: Peach Iced Tea Pops Drop whole wedges of sweet peach in your favorite iced tea mix and freeze for a delicious frozen treat. In need of frozen treat molds? Visit our Housewares Department for a variety of fun shapes and sizes. Want to make some frozen treats for the kids? In place of iced tea, try fruit juice or fruit puree for a kid-friendly version. You can also make a very grown up version by adding a splash of your favorite spirit or liqueur, such as vodka or Grand Marnier. Super simple, sweet, and chilly. Handcrafted Peach Tarts for Summer

posted on July 13th, 2016 by Lauren Pepin

What’s your favorite summer memory? One of mine is sitting around munching on summer fruit at the beach or by the pool. I love cold fruit on a hot day. Summertime brings about some of the best fruit of the year; cherries, berries, mango, grapes, kiwi, and peaches. Of all the fruits available this season, peaches have to be one of the sweetest treats. The range of flavor from tart to sweet with the varying colors never ceases to amaze me. Is there a more perfect fruit to represent summer? We have 4” and 8” seasonal fruit tarts available all year long, but this summer we are stoked to bring you our 8” Fresh Peach Tart that’s made with the sweetness of both yellow and white peaches layered in a beautiful design you will be proud to serve. We take a vanilla cream filled buttery tart shell and top it with alternating super sweet white and yellow peach slices. We then use a light glaze to help keep the peaches from turning. The tart is gorgeous and will decorate any table… Read More

Let's Talk Peach

posted on July 12th, 2016 by John Savidan

One of our favorite things about summer is that it means we’ve got an abundance of organic peaches in store for you. Our favorite stone fruit ranges in flavor from the super sweet and juicy to the tart and tangy. While eating them straight from the hand, with ice cream, or in a cobbler is always appropriate, we’ve found that peaches are remarkably versatile for all types of more savory summer dishes: salsas, chutneys salads, meat marinades, and more. How to Pick the a Perfect Peach Nothing’s more disappointing than biting into a bland peach. So how do you pick the best? Well, when you shop at Bristol Farms, you’re already halfway there. That’s because our farmers leave fruit on their trees two to three weeks longer than an average grower, which means the fruit’s sugar levels and maturity are at their absolute peak. Here are a few more perfect picking tips: Good Scent Pick up a peach and give it a sniff. Good peaches smell, well, good. Like a peach should! Vibrant… Read More

Essential Tools for Making Pie

posted on July 20th, 2015 by Kim Kaczor-Wardlow

Whenever I think of peach season, I reminisce about a farm we used to visit up in Acton to pick fresh, sweet peaches. Naturally, we would go home with our peaches and have a pie baking celebration. I just love making peach pies this time of year. If you've ever made a pie, you know that having the right tools can mean great success or saddened failure for your pie. Luckily, for my fellow peach pie-loving customers, I brought in a whole slew of fantastic pie-making tools from Harold Imports to make pie baking a breeze! These gadgets make the entire process of prepping, baking, serving, and maintaining freshness so much easier and more efficient. Here are a few of our best-loved products for the craft that is pie-making: Pastry Blender - Mrs. Anderson's Bakery Pastry Blenders are made of stainless steel, are strong and durable for even heavy dough, and can quickly and easily incorporate butter into your dry ingredients. It's the right tool to begin your pie-making process. Pie Crust… Read More

Peach Pairs with….Cheese?

posted on July 14th, 2015 by Michelle Salatino

Peaches, Nectarines, Plums, and other soft fruits are in season! While they are all deliciously eaten on their own, these sweet fruits can also be paired with savory items and added to a number of recipes. One pairing we are particularly fond of is our Summer Flame peaches and a variety of cheeses, like Ricotta, Mozzarella Burrata, Bellwether Fromage Blanc, Creme Fraiche Bellwether, Saint Angel Triple Cream, and Champignon Rougette...just to name a few. Our favorite and most versatile cheese in peach pairing happens to be Ricotta! The rich and creamy texture balances nicely with the sweetness of peach. We have a few simple suggestions when pairing Ricotta and peach to kick it up a notch: add some granola, honey, nuts, or jam. Our fresh peach salsa from our Deli would also be great paired with Ricotta; the spice will be balanced out with the creamy cheese. One of our favorite recipes pairing Ricotta and peach was one we found in the New York times; a recipe adapted from Seamus… Read More

A Canning Guide with Kilner® for Summer Fruits

posted on July 17th, 2014 by Kim Kaczor-Wardlow

In conjunction with our “Power of the Peach” promotion, we are thrilled to introduce a new canning and preserving line from the Kilner® Jar Co.  In the late 1840’s John Kilner started manufacturing the first canning jars in Dewsbury, England.  For nearly a 100 years the Kilner® family owned and operated the company.  By the late 1930’s competitive activity forced the bankruptcy of the Kilner® Jar Co. The good news for us is that even though the design of the jars have changed over the years the guiding principle that John Kilner built the business on has remained the same – the preservation of food without artificial preservatives.   Today, there are really two styles of Kilner® jars: the Cliptop, which has a glass lid and rubber seal and closed using a metal clip; and the preserve jar, which features a 2-part lid, a metal screw band, and a metal vacuum seal disc, along with a selection of critical preserving accessories.   A Guide to Jams It is a… Read More
