Handcrafted Peach Tarts for Summer

posted on July 11th, 2018 by Lauren Pepin

What’s your favorite summer memory? One of mine is sitting around munching on summer fruit at the beach or by the pool. I love cold fruit on a hot day. Summertime brings about some of the best fruit of the year; cherries, berries, mango, grapes, kiwi, and peaches. Of all the fruits available this season, peaches have to be one of the sweetest treats. The range of flavor from tart to sweet with the varying colors never ceases to amaze me. Is there a more perfect fruit to represent summer? We have 4” and 8” seasonal fruit tarts available all year long, but this summer we are stoked to bring you our 8” Fresh Peach Tart that’s made with the sweetness of both yellow and white peaches layered in a beautiful design you will be proud to serve. We take a vanilla cream filled buttery tart shell and top it with alternating super sweet white and yellow peach slices. We then use a light glaze to help keep the peaches from turning. The tart is gorgeous and will decorate any… Read More

Meet Our Local Peach Growers: The Sawatzky Family

posted on June 27th, 2018 by Leslie Thomas

May we just declare, our local California farmers are the absolute best? We know this because we've maintained loyal relationships with them over many, many years and have learned an incredible wealth of knowledge from every single one of them when it comes to their produce we carry in our stores. Today's farmer spotlight goes to Richard and Lavone Sawatzky - the amazing folks behind our seriously sweet and juicy peaches. Coming from a family of farmed grapes and raised chicken, Richard Sawatzky had never grown nor picked a fruit tree until he met his future wife Lavone, whose family farm of table and raisin grapes would flourish into a tree fruit farm. Growing up, Lavone spent many days working on her family's farm and thus, had great experience and passion for the hard work. During the early years though, her family field packed all of the fruit and her father would drive to LA to sell it, just to make ends meet. It wasn't until later years that they built a packing… Read More

Summer Sweet Tooth Fix: Peach + Plum Galette

posted on June 22nd, 2018 by Leslie Thomas

Don’t forget to enter our #BFGetPeachy Peach dessert contest for your chance to win a $500 gift card! Details here! How is it that during the hottest months of the year, when one is supposed to wear the least amount of clothing, such delicious food like BBQ and fruit pies are so religiously celebrated? It's not exactly fair if you ask us. But alas, the best fruit pies and all the delectable pulled pork, brisket, burgers, and brats shall be eaten. Because, summer. One of our favorite (not-beach-body-approved) recipes has got to be for the trusty, never fails, fruit galette. Easier than pie...and without that second layer of crust (so a wee bit healthier, right?!), the fruit really has a chance to shine - both in the beautiful appearance of the finished product and of course, the bold, perfectly sweet, fruit flavors. This Peach + Plum Galette combines two stone fruits that honestly, make us swoon. And if making the pie dough just seems like a harder task than what you want… Read More

Essential Tools for Making Pie

posted on June 19th, 2018 by Kim Kaczor-Wardlow

Whenever I think of peach season, I reminisce about a farm we used to visit up in Acton to pick fresh, sweet peaches. Naturally, we would go home with our peaches and have a pie baking celebration. I just love making peach pies this time of year. If you've ever made a pie, you know that having the right tools can mean great success or saddened failure for your pie. Luckily, for my fellow peach pie-loving customers, I brought in a whole slew of fantastic pie-making tools from Harold Imports to make pie baking a breeze! These gadgets make the entire process of prepping, baking, serving, and maintaining freshness so much easier and more efficient. Here are a few of our best-loved products for the craft that is pie-making: Pastry Blender - Mrs. Anderson's Bakery Pastry Blenders are made of stainless steel, are strong and durable for even heavy dough, and can quickly and easily incorporate butter into your dry ingredients. It's the right tool to begin your pie-making process. Pie… Read More

Let’s Talk Peaches

posted on July 16th, 2017 by John Savidan

One of our favorite things about summer is that it means we’ve got an abundance of organic peaches in store for you. Our favorite stone fruit ranges in flavor from the super sweet and juicy to the tart and tangy. While eating them straight from the hand, with ice cream, or in a cobbler is always appropriate, we’ve found that peaches are remarkably versatile for all types of more savory summer dishes: salsas, chutneys salads, meat marinades, and more. How to Pick the a Perfect Peach Nothing’s more disappointing than biting into a bland peach. So how do you pick the best? Well, when you shop at Bristol Farms, you’re already halfway there. That’s because our farmers leave fruit on their trees two to three weeks longer than an average grower, which means the fruit’s sugar levels and maturity are at their absolute peak. Here are a few more perfect picking tips: Good Scent Pick up a peach and give it a sniff. Good peaches smell, well, good. Like a peach… Read More

Summertime Grilled Peach Pizza Recipe

posted on July 12th, 2017 by Leslie Thomas

Mmmm....pizza. It's delicious no matter the variation. No cheese, extra cheese, thin crust, Chicago deep dish, extra veggies, sans veggies...we love it all. But what we really love is pizza cooked on the grill. There's just something special about that grilled, crunchy crust covered in melty cheese and of course, all the delicious toppings. Since it's officially summer peach season and as far as we're concerned, peaches are the more the merrier in the kitchen right now, we've created an ode to the peach in pizza pie form. It's covered in mozzarella, Gorgonzola, grilled sliced peaches, arugula, red onions, and a balsamic glaze. It's heavenly to say the least. Grilled Peach Pizza Ingredients: One batch pizza dough 1/2 cup marinara 1 1/2 cups shredded Mozzarella or Italian blend 2-3 large peaches, sliced but not peeled 2 cups packed arugula 1/3 cup Gorgonzola 1/3 cup thinly sliced red onion 1/2 cup Olive oil, divided Balsamic… Read More
