Spice, Ice, and Everything Nice

Even in the middle of a winter chill, sometimes all it takes is a tropical cocktail to transport you to a nice hammock with a beautiful beach view. This spice and ice drink with succulent mango and plenty of heat might just do the trick. Not only are mangoes juicy and delicious, but they’re also high in vitamins, especially C, and contain no cholesterol or fat, giving you even more reasons to indulge in this fruity and spicy treat.

Yields 1 cocktail


2 oz rum

3/4 oz Ginger-Habanero Syrup

Adam’s 7 Spice Blend

1 lime, freshly squeezed

3/4 oz mango puree

1 slice fresh mango, for garnish


Ginger-Habanero Syrup
Heat 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water to just before boiling point with 1 seeded habanero pepper and 3 oz freshly sliced ginger.
Remove habanero 5 minutes after taking off heat. Cool and strain out ginger.

Adam’s 7 Spice Blend

Whisk together 2 parts ground cinnamon, 2 parts ground fennel, 2 parts ground ginger, 1 part ground Szechuan peppercorns, 1 part ground cloves, 1 part ground star anise, and 1 part ground cardamom.
Blend total spice volume with an equal part of superfine bar sugar.

Spice and Ice Cocktail

Shake first 4 ingredients vigorously and strain into a chilled 10 oz cocktail glass rimmed with Adam’s 7 Spice Blend.
Garnish with fresh mango wedge.
Sip on the sweet heat!

If you have leftovers of the ripe superfruit, move them to the refrigerator either whole or cut to enjoy them later as a snack.
