Avocado toast, 6 ways!

There are very few foods out there that are equally as delicious for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but we’re very grateful that avocado toast is one of them! This healthy food trend is definitely here to stay, so we’ve outlined a few of the most craveable ways to enjoy the ever so popular and even more addicting “avo toast”. The green fruit, that honestly tastes and spreads like some kind of healthy green butter, is packed with nutritional benefits like good-for-you, heart-healthy fats, fiber, and potassium. Paired with whole-grain or gluten-free bread and some creative toppings, avocado toast is a meal that allows you to show off your inner chef and will have you feeling completely satisfied with just minimal effort in the kitchen.

1. Put an Egg on It!

Talk about a match made in foodie heaven! Avocado toast with a fried or poached egg on top truly takes your meal to the next level. A runny yolk adds multi-dimensional flavor and even more health benefits, like a boost of vitamin D and protein. Choose cage-free eggs and scramble, poach, or soft boil to your heart’s desire before adding to your avo! Then, top with crushed red pepper, chopped chive, and some salt and pepper for a flavor explosion.

2. Amp Up The Protein.

To amp up the protein in your avocado toast for even extra fuel, add sliced smoked salmon or some crumbled no sugar added, “paleo” bacon. Salmon in particular is heart-healthy and brain-boosting thanks to omega 3 fatty acids and will satiate any cravings for a full-on bagel and lox breakfast. But don’t stop there; for the lox avo toast, may we suggest adding additional toppings of thinly sliced red onion, tomato or cucumber, black sesame seeds, dried garlic, and a conservative sprinkling of salt for something that’ll surely kick start your day? And for a very bacon-y avo toast, throw some sliced scallions and diced tomatoes on top for a BLT-inspired concoction that you’re gonna love….

3. Veg Out…

For all of our herbivores out there, adding some extra veggies to your toast is always a good idea. Throwing some fresh, organic baby spinach and sliced tomatoes on top will boost the antioxidants and plenty of other benefits, such as improved eyesight, stronger muscles, and clearer skin. For a slightly fancier twist, add sun-dried tomatoes, fresh ricotta, and a few splashes of balsamic vinegar for a swoon-worthy or lunch or dinner.

4. Get Creative!!

When it comes to avocado toast, your wildest food dreams can come to life and probably taste good, too! The smooth and creamy texture of avocado is the ideal contrast to pomegranate seeds that bring a delightful super food crunch and a tart yet sweet burst of flavor. Sliced radishes and salty olives and cheeses are also tasty add-ons. Mix and match your avocado toast with slices slathered with almond butter and sliced bananas for a sweet ending to a savory snack.

5. Cheese, Please

One combo we’re particularly fond of? A delectable spread of ricotta and feta cheeses with thinly sliced avocado fanned on top. With some sprouts, a sprinkling of chopped chive, and sea salt and pepper; it’s a creamy and dreamy creation that you’re going to want time and again, we’re sure of it.

6. Keep It Simple.

At the end of the day, avocado toast is a yummy and simple staple that tastes amazing without any frills. Mashed avocado, a pinch of sea salt and black pepper and a squeeze of lemon juice is enough to have us hooked no matter the time of day. What’s your favorite way to enjoy avocado toast? Love this recipe. I’ve just started to replace meat and dairy with veggie alternatives so I like to take these yummy ideas and give them a veggie twist.
