She’s a Boss: Women‑Owned Brands at Bristol Farms
This Friday is for women of all ages and women of all nationalities. It’s a day when we honor the courageous, inspiring, and downright remarkable accomplishments of women in history and women of today.
In case you haven’t gotten the (very large) memo, March 8th is International Women’s Day and at Bristol Farms, that means acknowledging some of our women-owned vendors who impact our stores and our adoring customers every day with their brilliant, delicious, and seriously cool products.
Natasha Case, Coolhaus.
You may have heard of this unique, colorfully packaged and seriously dreamy creative ice cream line based out of Los Angeles. With a brick and mortar shop in Culver City and pints in just about every grocery store and market you walk into, Coolhaus is the brainchild of Natasha Case and Freya Estreller who both had backgrounds in real estate and design and also, a serious love for ice cream sandwiches. In 2008, the two started making homemade ice cream and baking cookies and then turned them into “cool houses” that they’d name after architects and architectural movements that inspired them.
Then one day, they scooped up a beat up truck and turned it into a modern day, bona fide ice cream truck which they drove to Coachella in April of 2009 and sold out of their “cool houses.” And that’s how it all began…
Frieda Caplan, Frieda’s Produce
We feel like we can’t even do Frieda justice with a single paragraph of words singing her praises. Let’s start with this fun fact though – Frieda is responsible for bringing the kiwi fruit to the United States. She is a powerhouse and if you watch this segment from her documentary, you may just get goosebumps.
Alyson Sullivan, Sullivan Farms Foods
Alyson Sullivan, owner of Sullivan Farms and Los Angeles native, began her mustard business seven years ago in her home kitchen. Selling in numerous Farmer’s Markets and small wine and cheese shops from Hollywood to Silverlake, she grew her company staying true to her desire to keep the sweet and spicy creations as high quality as possible. Loree is the meat-loving, brilliant business-minded boss behind Mulay’s sausage.
As skis bums living in Crested Butte, Colorado, we started making Mulay’s Sausage to sell at the local 4th of July Festival in 1990. The last 29 years have been an exciting journey for our family. Often people think Mulay’s is new because of our clean label. Though our ingredients are now “on-trend” Mulay’s Sausage is made according to my family’s centuries old recipe. My family’s crest (on all of our packages) dates back to 1326 AD!
