Meet the Founders:
Lauren + Rachel Simmons
of Sugar Momma Wines
Sugar Momma is a family affair dedicated to creating exceptional wines and supporting the female entrepreneurs of tomorrow. Recently, we chatted with sisters Lauren and Rachel Simmons to learn more about their passion, their mission, and what motivates them to continue on their unique quest.
01 Why did you start Sugar Momma Wines?
Rachel: Collectively, my sister and I have over 20 years in the beverage business and we wanted to create a brand that meant something to us. That’s why a portion of proceeds from every bottle goes back to female focused charities. We are currently working with an amazing charity called She’s the First. Their mission is to fight for a world where every girl chooses her own future. We hope to help make that happen.
02 What obstacles did you face along the way?
Lauren: We face obstacles every day in this business but the most important thing is to be extremely resilient and strong enough to overcome these challenges.
We believe in selling with a purpose and that is what keeps us motivated and focused on the bigger picture.
03 What lessons do you have for other entrepreneurs?
Lauren: Be willing to take chances and believe in yourself. There will be setbacks along the way but nothing is impossible when you put your whole heart and mind into it.
04 What’s on the horizon for Sugar Momma?
Rachel: We plan to launch other varietals under the Sugar Momma label. We currently have Rosé, Blanc, and Rouge. The next step would be to create a domestic line including Cabernet and Chardonnay.
We’ll also be partnering with more charities. We’re really excited to see how things unfold this year!
05 How do you keep work/life balance? What drives/inspires you?
Lauren: It currently is pretty hard to keep a balance. We are in our infancy stage and need to continue to hit the ground running. I am on the road pretty much every week. I try to take my weekends to myself and relax.
Rachel: I recently had a baby and it is very difficult to keep that work/life balance. Luckily I have an amazing family that supports me, it absolutely takes a village. My sister is my inspiration, she has one of the most amazing work ethics and I am so lucky to have her as my business partner.
