Wine Thursdays: Pata Negra Tempranillo

posted on September 21st, 2017 by Leslie Thomas

From the popular Toro Region, this Tempranillo has matured in French oak giving it balance and complexity. Intense aromas of black berries are integrated with toasty wood notes. Powerful with intense ripe fruit flavors and subtle tannins lead to a smooth finish. Aged for 4 months in French oak barrels. The wine region of Toro is a predominantly red-wine appellation in Castilla y León in north-western Spain. The region produces red wine across the spectrum from Joven to Gran Reserva, but all grades must be made from at least 75 percent Tempranillo, which in the Toro region is called Tinta de Toro. The best reds found in this region are robust, concentrated and well-structured. Suggested Retail is $9.99 Sale Price is 2 for $10! Save $9.99 on 2 Read More

Sausage, Sauerkraut, and Apple Hash for Oktoberfest

posted on September 21st, 2017 by Leslie Thomas

It’s hard to believe that Fall is officially here. Between pumpkin spiced everything and an undeniable urge to pull out all the scarves and booties (speaking to you ladies), the delightfully fragrant and perfectly chilly season full of soups, stews, and crock pot suppers is underway. And with the Autumn time air also comes a tradition that’s rooted in Germany but often celebrated by many here; Oktoberfest. Beer slinging festivals with pretzel and sausage stations are pretty common in big cities and small towns alike. There’s no doubt we’ll be celebrating in our own culinary kinda way as we get further into Fall - but for now, we’re starting with an Oktoberfest Sausage sale and a deliciously easy weeknight kinda meal with those snappy and succulent sausages. Make it tonight...or make it for breakfast this weekend with a fried egg on top - sure, it’s not the authentic German thing to do...but it’s a spectacular addition (trust us on this one). posted on September 7th, 2017 by Leslie Thomas

Calcu, which means “healing doctor” in the local Mapuche language, was created to emphasize the diversity of Chile’s Colchagua Valley. The fruit is always a combination of the family’s estate fruit, and locally sourced, sustainable grapes from quality Colchagua growers. Escarlata Red Blend offers up a fruity nose with spices and predominating red fruits, as well as notes of blackcurrant and black raspberry. The palate is well balanced with a great freshness and a nice tannic structure. The winemaker has crafted Escarlata to be equally enjoyed with a casual dinner or just to sip on its own. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Carmenere and Malbec. Suggested Retail $14.99 For one week only, sale price is 2 for $15.00 Save $14.98! Wine Thursday 2014 Ano Verde Pinot Noir Santa Barbara County

posted on September 7th, 2017 by Leslie Thomas

In Spanish, the term “Año Verde” is used to describe a moment in time when magical things happen and all is good. The 2014 vintage in Santa Barbara County was another stellar example of why the area is a world-class Pinot Noir location. The 2014 Año Verde exemplifies many of the characteristics that have fixed Santa Barbara County on the California wine-making map. The rich garnet color shines brilliantly in your glass. The clean and crisp aroma delivers nuances of sweet smokiness and tobacco leaf with ripe cherries coming through. The well balanced acidity helps promote the development of fruit flavors with hints of wild raspberries, cherries, and a mouthwatering note of chocolate mocha and a hint of cola. The lush finish ends on a seductive palate of sweet blackberry, cherry and licorice that lingers just the right amount of time to keep you coming back for more Read More

posted on September 6th, 2017 by Leslie Thomas

In case you couldn't tell, we're pretty big purveyors of cheese. From snacking to melting to everything between, cheese is a guilt pleasure indeed. And we always strive to carry all those cheeses you know and love plus some of the exotic gourmet ones too. This month, we're featuring a few of Scotland's finest cheddar cheeses. Amazing on their own, all three of these cheeses are also quite delicious on a baguette with a delightful sweet chutney to contrast the bite of cheddar. Connage Dunlop Scottish Cheddar This Award Winning Scottish Cheddar handcrafted on a family farm, by the shores of the Moray Firth. Connage Highland Dairy is based on the shores of the Moray Firth, near north and east Inverness, which is the Highland council area of Scotland.
