Meet the Founder: The Cook Family of Something Sweet

Something Sweet Cook Family

When Dan Cook craved something sweet, he reached for his wife Kim’s legendary chocolate chip cookies. Perfected over the years with a mix of semisweet and milk chocolate chips and the rich, nutty flavor of browned butter, Kim’s recipe transformed a simple cookie into something extraordinary.

After Dan’s unexpected passing, Kim and their daughters, Brittney, Cailin, and Lindsey, found comfort in the kitchen. Remembering Dan’s nickname for them, “Team Cook,” they turned their shared love of baking into a way to honor his memory. On the one-year anniversary of his passing, Something Sweet was born.

Chewy, gooey, and big enough to share, these cookies taste homemade but bake straight from the freezer in under 15 minutes—no thawing required. Convenient, resealable pouches let you bake two for a snack or ten for a crowd. Made with high-quality ingredients and no oils, additives, or preservatives, they deliver the perfect balance of crisp edges and soft, chewy centers, with a hint of brown butter caramel flavor.

Available in Brown Butter Chocolate Chip and Brown Butter Snickerdoodle, Something Sweet brings the warmth of home and a piece of the Cook family’s heart to every bite.

Recently, we caught up with “Team Cook” to learn more about their journey and hear their advice for fellow entrepreneurs.

1. Why did you start Something Sweet?

After losing our dad in 2021, my mom, sisters, and I founded Something Sweet to turn our grief into purpose and launched it on the one-year anniversary of his passing. We share Mom’s recipes and Dad’s favorite treats through premium, pre-portioned, ready-to-bake cookie dough, bringing families together over homemade-tasting cookies. Beyond convenience, we create moments of connection, comfort, and joy. Everyone experiences grief, and through our business, we offer joy in every season of life. Each cookie carries a piece of our story, showing that resilience and love can fuel something bigger than ourselves while inspiring hope, family, and shared moments.

2. What obstacles did you face along the way?

Every step along the way has brought its share of challenges, and we know it always will. But our mindset has always been that there’s a solution to every problem, and we’re capable of figuring it out. Building Something Sweet has tested us in every way, but we’ve learned to approach obstacles with persistence, faith, and creativity. Nothing is impossible for us; every challenge we’ve faced has only made us stronger, smarter, and more determined to keep moving forward.

3. What lessons do you have for other entrepreneurs?

Don’t wait for the “perfect” moment; it doesn’t exist. Start with what you have, stay consistent, and stay true to your “why.” We’ve learned that resilience and authenticity are everything. The early days are messy, emotional, and uncertain, but those are also the days that shape you. Surround yourself with people who believe in your vision, listen more than you talk, and always keep learning. And most importantly, never lose sight of your purpose, because that’s what will carry you through the hard days.

4. What’s on the horizon for Something Sweet?

We’re just getting started. We recently launched our third flavor, Brown Butter Oatmeal Raisin, after over two years of focusing on perfecting our classics and growing our retail footprint. Now, we’re focused on expanding nationwide, building deeper partnerships with key retailers, and continuing to redefine what “frozen dessert” means through simple ingredients, nostalgic flavors, and purpose-driven storytelling. Long term, our goal is to make Something Sweet a household name that people feel connected to not just because it tastes good, but because of what it stands for.

5. How do you keep work/life balance? What drives/inspires you?

Work and life are deeply intertwined for us. This business is our family, our story, and our way of honoring the person who inspired it all. Balance doesn’t always look perfect, but we try to ground ourselves in gratitude and faith and to remember that success means nothing if you lose yourself along the way. What drives us every day is our dad’s legacy, our family’s strength, and the opportunity to share a little joy with others to remind people to slow down, be present, and “bake something sweet,” because life really is short.
