Tender spears of asparagus get the ultimate upgrade in this flavorful starter or side dish. A delicate wrapping of prosciutto adds savory texture, while a buttery, hot honey glaze provides a hint of heat and sweetness. Consider this the perfect accompaniment to a Valentine’s Day surf and turf!
Ingredients
1 pound asparagus (medium thickness)
6 ounces prosciutto, sliced thin
The Glaze:
2 tablespoons hot honey
1 tablespoon melted butter (or olive oil)
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Optional Ingredients
pinch of red pepper flakes
Directions
-
Preheat your oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
In a small bowl, whisk together the hot honey, melted butter, and pepper. If your honey is very thick, microwave it for 10 seconds so it becomes pourable.
-
In a spiral pattern, wrap each asparagus spear with a strip of prosciutto.
-
Place the bundles on the tray. Use a pastry brush (or the back of a spoon) to coat the bundles with half of the hot honey mixture.
-
Roast for 10 minutes.
-
Remove the tray, brush with the remaining glaze, and bake for another 2 to 5 minutes until the prosciutto is deeply golden and crispy.
